The department of chemistry and biochemistry has hosted an undergraduate summer research program since 1959. The NSF funded REU program first began in 1986. In 2008, the REU program celebrated its 20th year.

J. Morris Bramlett (1984) Ph.D. under Dr. Allison, University of Arkansas. Currently serves as dean, School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, University of Arkansas at Monticello.
1986
David Dawson (1986) Ph.D. under Dr. Allison, University of Arkansas, 1992. He was a postdoc from 1992-1994 with Scott Gilbertson at Washington University in St. Louis. From 1994-1996 he was a postdoc with Duane Miller at the pharmacy school at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in Memphis. He was an assistant professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe from 1996-2001. In 2001 he joined Christian Brothers University in Memphis where he was promoted to associate professor in 2006.
