Annual Meetings and Requirements

For 1st year graduate students:
  1. Please consult with your advisor to form your doctoral committee and complete the doctoral committee form and submit it to the graduate coordinator. The form can be found here: https://graduate-and-international.uark.edu/_resources/forms/doctoral-committee.pdf.
  2. Please schedule a meeting with your committee as soon as possible and no later than 2/1/2024. The meeting usually takes no more than 30 min. Please fill out the CHBC Graduate Student Degree Plan Form. After the meeting, please submit the signed Degree Plan Form to the graduate coordinator.
  3. Please fill out the Student Academic Progress Form. For PhD students, you can find the form here: Annual Graduate Student Academic Review for Doctoral Students (uark.edu). For MS students, you can find the form here: Annual Graduate Student Academic Review for Master's Students (uark.edu). Please have your advisor review this form and sign it as the “Review Coordinator” and submit to the graduate coordinator after the committee meeting and no later than 6/1/2024.
For 2nd year graduate students:
  1. Please submit your written proposal to your committee by 3/1/2024. The format of the proposal can be found on Page 17 of the CHBC Graduate Student Handbook:  https://chemistry.uark.edu/academics/graduate/chbcgradstudenthandbook2021.pdf.
  2. Please schedule a meeting with your committee between 3/1/2024 and 4/15/2024. The purpose of this meeting is to defend orally of your writing proposal. The meeting usually takes 2 hours. Please update the CHBC Graduate Student Degree Plan Form as necessary and bring to the meeting: CHBC Grad Student Degree Plan.docx | Powered by Box. After the meeting, please submit the signed Degree Plan Form to the graduate coordinator.
  3. Please fill out the Student Academic Progress Form. For PhD students, you can find the form here: Annual Graduate Student Academic Review for Doctoral Students (uark.edu). For MS students, you can find the form here: Annual Graduate Student Academic Review for Master's Students (uark.edu). Please have your advisor review this form and sign it as the “Review Coordinator” and submit to the graduate coordinator after the committee meeting and no later than 6/1/2024.
For 3rd year or above graduate students:
  1. Please submit your annual progress report to your committee by 3/1/2024. The progress report should include the major activities and results since the last reporting period, as well as any major changes in the objectives/aims of your proposed studies. If applicable, it should also include the plan to finish the thesis with a time line.
  2. Please schedule a meeting with your committee between 3/1/2024 and 5/15/2024. The objective of this meeting is to report your annual progress. The meeting usually takes 1-2 hours. After the meeting, please submit the signed Degree Plan Form to the graduate coordinator.

For graduate students who plan to graduate:
  1. If you graduate by June 30, 2024, please notify the graduate coordinator of your defense date as soon as you schedule it and send the graduate coordinator the outline/progress of your thesis and the defense date via email by March 1, 2024. The email should also be copied your MS/PhD advisor for approval. Please follow the graduation checklist and complete the tasks in time.
  2. If you plan to graduate after July 1st 2024 in the summer 2024, you will need to submit the progress report by March 1, 2024 and have you annual committee meeting by 5/15/2024, and submit the forms.
